Five paradise islands from which you can work remotely in 2022

Working from home is much better when the home is a tropical oasis.

For many employees, one of the bright spots of the coronavirus pandemic has been the ability to not be hitched to a desk. A computer and an Internet connection are now all that employees previously tied to their desks need to do their jobs.

Tropical island tourism departments have taken note, and with COVID-19 continuing to plague the travel industry, a number of island oases have focused on attracting long-term visitors to come to work remotely from paradise.

For digital nomads looking for a change of scenery in 2022, here are five beach sceneries filled with resort towns that made it possible not only to stop but to stay a year or two.

The new 12-month Barbados Welcome Stamp program allows “anyone who qualifies for a visa and whose work is independent of location” to stay for a full year on the Eastern Caribbean island. For those who love it so much that they would like to stay longer, “you can easily reapply”, a Initiative website states.

Income requirements are also significantly lower than those for remote work visas from many other countries: applicants must earn an annual income of at least $ 50,000 and pay a non-refundable fee of $ 2,000. For families, the fee is $ 3,000 in total.

A non-refundable fee of $ 1,469 for groups of up to two people (with an additional $ 500 per dependent) is also required.

The work permit does not include accommodation – lone Cayman workers will need to find their own accommodation on one of the country’s three islands.

In October, Costa Rica passed a law aimed at making the Central American country more attractive to remote foreign workers. The new legislation includes income tax exemptions and local banking access, and validates overseas driving licenses for regional use, according to the El País newspaper. However, among the stipulations of the rule, foreign workers must earn at least $ 3,000 per month. While tourist visas only last for three months, it’s easy to extend them by simply visiting a neighboring country and then coming back.
