Cobb warns of heavy traffic due to World Series
COBB COUNTY, Georgia. – Cobb County is issuing a warning to commuters to work remotely this Friday as the region hosts the World Series and a large convention. More than 120,000 people are expected to flock to the area just outside of Interstate 285 along the Interstate 75 corridor.
“With the increase in traffic (vehicular and pedestrian), we have increased our footprint in all areas, and the public will notice a marked increase in the number of patrol officers,” the County Police Department wrote on Wednesday. Cobb in a statement. âOur department has coordinated extensive plans of operations with the Atlanta Braves, Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies. Federal, state and local laws that have either helped with personnel resources or will be affected by the increased flow of traffic to their own jurisdictions.
On Friday, Truist Park will host Game 3 of the World Series between the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros. About 43,000 people are expected to attend the game and several thousand more are expected to visit The Battery in an attempt to harness the energy.
“We recommend that local businesses encourage employees to work remotely if possible starting Friday October 29 to facilitate traffic,” Cobb County tweeted.
But it’s not just baseball fans who flock to the area. At the nearby Galleria, more than 32,000 people are expected for Anime Weekend Atlanta, the Southeast’s largest anime convention.
âEven with our increased presence and additional security measures, we still need the public’s help to make this event safe and fun for everyone. We encourage all visitors to Cobb County to remember Lock-Take -Hide. When visiting for games or any other location, be sure to lock your vehicle when you park. Remove any valuables from your car before you leave the house (or your hotel, if you are in). visit). On Tuesday, the Cobb County Council of Commissioners set aside $ 350,000 in funds to support the World Series hosted at Truist Park.
All days off for Cobb County police officers have been canceled, shifts have been lengthened and special units have been reassigned to increase manpower around the stadium.
Police are reminding anyone who might witness one of the events at Truist Park or the Galleria to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
